Sony Ericsson have released their latest Walkman-branded handset in Japan - the Xmini. Unusually for a Japanese handset, this one isn't filled to the brim, with high-end features. Rather, the device's specs are rather basic, for a handset to be available, in Japan only, on the KDDI network.

It's available in a range of colours, including white, green, and black. As you'd expect from a Walkman handset, the Xmini features dedicated music playing keys, situated below the device's display.

Another Dual Sim handset from Samsung

Dual Sim handsets aren't all that common in Europe - only three are currently available - two of those are from Samsung. Today, they've added another Dual Sim handset to their portfolio - the S9502. Though, this isn't just some cheap plastic handset with Dual Sim functionality, coming in at approximately $1000, the key reason being the material's it's constructed of.

The luxury S9502, with a rhodium-plated body, will be resistant to many kinds of potential damages. It's known that it'll be available in Russia first, but, no official date, or price have been confirmed by Samsung.

Nokia touchscreen N-Series handset coming sooner than expected

It's been known that Nokia are not only working on the 5800 Tube touchscreen handset, but, a high-end N-Series touchscreen device as well, for quite some time now. At an event, held a few days ago, held in New Delhi, India, Nokia said that they are indeed working on several touchscreen handsets, including an N-Series handset, sporting a touchscreen, to no-one's surprise.

The surprise is that the high-end touchscreen N-Series handset will be announced very shortly, and is said to be available to buy, from early next year, just a short while after the 5800 Tube hits the market. Confirming these speculations, Devinder Kishore, director marketing, Nokia India at an event in New Delhi said "We will have lot of touchscreen phones coming up, including an N-series device very soon"

Samsung i7110's specs

We already have some articles on the upcoming Samsung i7110 smartphone in our source. In a word, it’s a Symbian S60-based device housed in a candybar-style casing, whose major trump is a so-called “virtual mouse pointer” – it allows the user to control a mouse pointer on the phone’s screen with the help of the navigation pad (much like the setup found in the Samsung i780 Windows Mobile smartphone). However it’s the first time we could get our hands on a detailed spec sheet of the phone. Another touchscreen handset has appeared from LG - the KP500. This handset is the cheapest handset, to sport a touchscreen available on the market. Naturally, to achieve this, the handset, spec-wise, isn't top of the range, as can be seen below. Once again, LG has not officially announced the confirmed specs for the handset - but, expect them to soon, as the handset should be released in Europe, next month.

It seems Nokia is now all set to roll out their first touchscreen-based phone ever – the much-hyped and anticipated, the 5800 Tube. Actually, there is literally nothing that we don’t know about already. We even had the privilege of savoring lots of spy pics of this S60-based device and even some live footage in movies.

Nokia E72 and E75

While the market still has to savor Nokia's two latest and greatest offerings the enterprise segment - Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 - it seems the Finnish phone maker already has two other phones in the works and almost ready for release. According to a recent leak (which Nokia have been trying to clear up all these days), Nokia E72 (a full-thumbboard phone, that looks very similar to the E71) and E75 (a side-slider, whose design has been carried over from some HTC's Windows Mobile solutions, namely the S730).

Also, thanks to what appears to be another blooper of Nokia's, some of the E72's wap profiles popped up on their web site - judging by what's written down there, it will pack pretty much the same features and abilities as the E71 and will come with S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 user interface. All in all, it seems strange for Nokia to have two new phones on the way so early after the recent release of the E71 and E66. We will keep you posted.

According to Smart Mobile Gadgets, are all set to release a new communicator going to by the name of "Opal" - it seems to follow in the footsteps of the much-hyped HTC Touch, utilizing the same sapes and curves. While apparently it doesn't lack in the way of looks, its tech specs are somewhat thin on the ground, for instance, it doesn't even have 3G support. LG has shown off what could be called the LG Viewty II. The KC910 as it's known, builds on the Viewty, on a number of fronts. It's confirmed to ship around October time, but the price is not yet known.

Nokia N96 is now available

Nokia have now released their N96 handset, seven months after it was announced. Essentially, it's an N95 with 16GB internal memory, different design, and the addition of a DVB-H digital TV tuner. Further more, you can expand the internal memory even further, with the addition of a MicroSD card slot, currently, 8GB caeds are availabe, but 16GB cards can't be that far off. It will be pricedat €550, without taxes or subsidies.

Mobile phones sporting 3G capabilities - face-to-face video calling, and faster download speeds than 2.5G handsets, have been available as early as the start of 2003. Vertu haven't equipped many of their handsets with 3G, well, there was one - the Ascent Ti, though it had no support for video calling capabilities. Their Signature line of handsets are to be equipped with 3G for the first time. Again, there is no video calling capabilities onboard. Though, of note, the Signature series also come with Wi-Fi connectivity, and a QVGA resolution display, utelising the OLED technology.

Sony Ericsson has made a software developers kit available for its forthcoming Windows Mobile 6.1-based Xperia X1 phone. The SDK will allow developers to create their own panels and Web-based and on-device applications for the Xperia. The SDK includes the tools, plug-ins and documentation necessary for developers to build and test Xperia panels and applications. The panels are small applications that reside on the Today screen of the Xperia. By allowing developers to create their own panels and applications, it opens up the potential for the Xperia to have more access to custom third-party content. Sony Ericsson has yet to say exactly when the Xperia X1 will become available.

Nokia announces 8800 Carbon Arte edition

Nokia's luxury 8800 range has seen a new edition to the range today - the 8800 Carbon Arte edition. As the name would imply, the handset is made of carbon fibre, stainless steel, and titanium. To no-ones surprise, the handset, with its premium materials, much like its predecessors, will not come cheap. Before taxes, and operator subsidies, it'll set you back a wallet-busting €1,100/$1,600. Fingerprints have been an issue on previous editions of the8800, but, fear not, as, for the Carbon Arte, they have decked it out in anti-fingerprint casing. It's set to start shipping by the end of this quarter, that means the very end of September, at the very latest.

Review of Samsung Airave

The Airave is a femtocell that is being offered by Sprint and its technology partner Samsung. The basic idea is to improve cellular coverage in your home or office. Is that what it does?

Before we dive into our experience with the Airave, let's talk a little about how this bit of magic works. A femtocell is essentially a tiny little cell tower that creates a wireless cell about the size of an average house. It is large enough to cover 5000 square feet. Though the hardware itself is the same size (and appearance) as any garden variety Wi-Fi router, it acts a little bit differently.

When you buy the Airave, it will be configured and set up at a Sprint store so that it will work when you get it home. You'll have to register the main cellular account you'd like it tied to, and you can permit up to three other Sprint wireless lines to access the Airave.

With the Airave up and running, it uses your broadband Internet connection (required) to communicate with Sprint's network. Unlike T-Mobile's HotSpot @Home service, which uses Wi-Fi and a different technology called UMA, the Airave emits standard cellular signals. When in range, your cell phone latches onto the Airave instead of the local cell towers (if there are any), and uses your broadband to pass calls and data to Sprint's network. Calls will be automatically transferred to Sprint's regular cellular network once the cell phone ranges away from the Airave's coverage area.

iPhone Security Flaw Exposed

A flaw in the iPhone's software can allow anyone to bypass the password-locking feature of the phone and get access to the phone's Favorites menu. Once in the Favorites menu, other parts of the iPhone can be accessed, such as Mail, Safari and SMS. This flaw negates the password-lock feature and exposes user data to anyone with knowledge of the method used to get past the password lock. A temporary solution has been discovered. In the iPhone's Settings menu, click on "General", then click on "Home Button", then click on either "Home" or "iPod". Choosing one of these two options will prevent anyone from accessing the Favorites menu, and keep most user data safe.

Samsung i8510 announced, re-named INNOV8

Samsung has announced their i8510 handset, and renamed it the Samsung INNOV8 – that's not just slang terms for innovate, but the 8 has meaning too – as, what looks to be a successor to the G810, specs-wise at least, packs in a whopping eight megapixel camera lens – although, unlike the G810, optical zoom, and an Xenon Flash are not present. Still, optical zoom and cameraphones don't seem to mesh well, and it adds bulk to the handset. The Xenon Flash is replaced by a dual LED. It will hit Europe next month, for approximately €7500.
